Family Advocacy & Resources

Introduction

Deep Roots, Strong Families provides one-on-one advocacy and navigation supports for Indigenous and non-Indigenous families, connecting them to trusted, culturally grounded resources. 

Status Card & Genealogy Support

  • Step-by-step guidance for Secure Certificate of Indian Status (Status Card) applications.
  • Support gathering documents and preparing genealogy information.
  • Printable templates and forms available through our Status Card Resource Package.

Jordan’s Principle Family Support

  • Help preparing and submitting Jordan’s Principle applications for children’s health, education, and social needs.
  • Guidance on building strong requests, gathering documentation, and connecting with approved service providers.
  • Jordan’s Principle Resource Package available for families

FNHA Health & Wellness Navigation

  • Support accessing First Nations Health Authority benefits (dental, vision, mental health, medical travel, etc.).
  • Resources for traditional healing, trauma-informed wellness, and community supports.
  • FNHA Health & Wellness Package available.

System & Advocacy Support

  • Navigation for healthcare, education, legal, and MCFD systems.
  • Guidance preparing for meetings, case reviews, and appeals.
  • Advocacy focused on cultural safety, trauma-informed communication, and family empowerment.
  • MCFD & Legal Supports Package and Education & Advocacy Package available.

Paralegal-Level Document & Form Support

(Non-legal advocacy and document preparation only.)


  • Help completing forms, affidavits, and statutory declarations.
  • Drafting support letters, timelines, and statements for housing, MCFD, and other agencies. 
  • Organizing documentation for Jordan’s Principle, status applications, or FNHA funding requests.
  • All work is advocacy-based and trauma-informed — not legal representation or advice.

Postpartum & Mental Health Supports

  • Advocacy and navigation for Indigenous mothers and families experiencing postpartum depression, anxiety, or trauma. 
  • Connection to Indigenous mental-health resources and culturally safe care pathways.
  • Postpartum & Mental Health Resource Package available.

Cultural, Healing & Substance Use Supports

  • Guidance connecting with culturally grounded wellness, harm-reduction, and treatment supports.
  • Community and FNHA program information for individuals and families impacted by substance use.
  • Healing & Wellness Resource Package available.
